Context

Issues:
The municipality of Estelí is located 150 km from Managua; its urban area is divided into three districts, District III being the most vulnerable. Statistics from 2010 applied to 13 neighborhoods of District III showed that 45% of households lived in extreme poverty, in settlements without streets and sanitary sewer network; 25% of homes were inadequate and 37% of homes had single mothers as head of households.

Project objective:
To contribute to the social and economic integration of District III inhabitants of the city of Estelí in 13 neighborhoods, prioritizing women entrepreneurs, improving the infrastructure of their business areas currently located in precarious homes, and strengthening entrepreneurship capability and progressive family and community habitat improvement.

Scope: Municipal, city of Estelí, District III

Results

Achieved Results:
469 enhanced homes, 101 of which are new;
9 risk mitigation works built;
50 workers in the construction sector employed;
706 persons (93% women) trained in: safe homes, entrepreneurship, financial education, healthy homes, among others.
Intervention in the 13 neighborhoods of District III benefits 10% of total households and homes in these neighborhoods, 15.5% of households in poverty, 26% of households led by women and 43% of households with economic activities.

Expected Results:
To continue strengthening entrepreneurship capability, business management and progressive family and community habitat improvement of the neighborhoods of Estelí;
Creation of partnerships and synergies among local actors; social mobilization for habitat improvement; local economy boosting;
