Context>
Issues:
Peru is the country most widely affected by El Niño Coastal Phenomenon (FENC) annually. In addition to this, the high concentration of people, location and land quality, increase the vulnerability of many people. There were more than 17.000 collapsed homes by the FENC in 2017.
Project objective:
To promote local economic development by improving the homes of vulnerable entrepreneurs, whose homes usually operate as businesses. The initiative includes sustainable construction and financial solutions, technical assistance and training in Disaster Risk Reduction.
Scope: Nationwide, specifically, Trujillo, Chiclayo and Piura
Results>
Achieved Results:
1,500 customers with credit for housing improvements since January 2018;
2,500 families aware of disaster issues since March 2018;
360 master builders trained since March 2018;
Training of actors and clients from the areas with respect to construction materials, plans and budget.
Expected Results:
15,000 people directly and indirectly benefited by December 2018
To implement a sustainable support model in housing improvement
To increase community resistance against possible emergencies
To continue promoting local economic development, specifically in construction, through trainings for hardware stores and master builders. The goal is training 64 hardware stores in marketing during 2018 and 360 master builders in construction techniques.
