Foro

What is our Forum?

Housing at the Center of the New Urban Agenda. Following the initial experience in Bogotá 2012 and Monterrey 2015, the 3rd Latin American and Caribbean Housing and Habitat Forum 2018 is now part of a much larger initiative: the regional platform for knowledge management and the promotion of best practices for the urban habitat, known as the Urban Housing Practitioner’s Hub (UHPH), which will be officially presented at this event.

Given that housing is a pillar in the construction of cities, the 3rd Forum will focus on identifying progress in this sector towards the implementation of the New Urban Agenda (HIII), while demonstrating, through practices, approaches, and policies, how housing interventions can be integrated into a more holistic view of the habitat, thereby fostering inclusion, resilience and sustainability in settlements and the city.

This time, Habitat for Humanity, in conjunction with Cities Alliance, UN-Habitat and other UHPH partners, and with the special collaboration of the government of the Dominican Republic, extends an invitation to join in this regional space for exchange and discussion to share lessons learned, trends and challenges in housing and urban habitat, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on June 12-14, 2018.

Thank you for your interest. We have reached max capacity.

Urban Housing Practitioners Hub

(URBAN HOUSING PRACTITIONERS HUB- uhph)

The Urban Housing Practitioners Hub or UHPH is an open platform for the exchange, gathering and dissemination of practices, knowledge, and stakeholders working around housing and urban habitat in Latin America and the Caribbean. It combines the digital space with face-to-face interactions so that those working in the sector can connect with each other and access information and practical solutions in real time.

It was established in October 2016, during Habitat III, the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, thanks to the funding and support of Cities Alliance and Habitat for Humanity. Its vision is to impact the quality and scale of regional housing practices and policies and contribute to the achievement and local implementation of the New Urban Agenda, the 2030 Agenda (Sustainable Development Goals), and the international frameworks for sustainable development, climate change mitigation, and disaster reduction. The UHPH was born of the collaboration of members and allies like the Caixa Econômica Federal of Brazil, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development of Chile (Minvu), UN-Habitat, the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and regional and local associations such as the Federation of Latin American Cities (FLACMA) and the Inter-American Housing Union (UNIAPRAVI), and other networks and organizations such as TECHO, the Ibero-american Forum on Best Practices, the Mario Santo Domingo Foundation of Colombia, and the Housing and Habitat Researchers of the Americas Network (RIVHA).

In June 2017, the UHPH was ratified by the 17th General Assembly of the MINURVI, the intergovernmental coordination and cooperation entity of Latin America and the Caribbean in terms of sustainable development of human settlements. It was officially presented in the Conference of Cities in Santiago, Chile in 2017 in recognition of its importance as a regional knowledge platform.
